The Senior Common Room (SCR) of Africa Hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has extended its educational outreach initiative, EduReach, to students of Simms Senior High School, bringing together students from Simms Senior High School and Kofi Agyei Senior High Technical School for a day of academic guidance, mentorship and career orientation.
The outreach programme aimed to provide students with information on academic programmes at KNUST, admission requirements, scholarship opportunities and career pathways, while encouraging them to pursue higher education with confidence. Activities included presentations by representatives of KNUST's six colleges, mentorship sessions, motivational talks and an interactive question-and-answer session.
The Hall Warden of Africa Hall, Professor Gifty Adom Asamoah, said the initiative forms part of the Hall's annual commitment to helping students make informed educational and career choices.
"Our basic objective is that every year we go out to schools to discuss the programmes we have at KNUST, the requirements for admission, the career opportunities available, and the scholarship opportunities students can access when they join the university," she said.
Professor Asamoah urged the students to pay close attention to the presentations, noting that understanding the link between academic programmes, admission requirements and career prospects would enable them to make informed decisions about their future.
"I hope that we listen attentively to the various courses and the requirements so that we can make good informed decisions when selecting our courses," she said.
The Hall Tutor of Africa Hall, Dr. Abena Achiaa Boakye, delivered a presentation on scholarship opportunities available at KNUST, highlighting financial support schemes designed to assist academically talented but financially disadvantaged students. She encouraged participants to remain committed to their studies, stressing that dedication and hard work could open the door to both university admission and scholarship opportunities.
Representatives from KNUST's six colleges introduced participants to the academic programmes offered by their respective colleges. They outlined admission requirements, discussed career prospects and responded to students' questions.
Beyond the academic presentations, members of the Senior Common Room engaged participants in mentorship and motivational sessions aimed at building confidence, resilience and purposeful career planning. The interactive discussions provided students with the opportunity to seek guidance from academics and professionals while gaining insights into university life and personal development.
